Chelsea Crowned New Premier League Champions

By Ayesha Shaukat Khan

Islamabad — Eden Hazard’s rebound header on Sunday was enough to seal Chelsea’s first Premier League title since 2010, after the Blues midfielder’s initial penalty was saved by Crystal Palace goalie Julian Speroni,

Palace made Chelsea sweat for the points, but the Chelsea players infused with the kind of severe mindset, which has now become a trademark of Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho’s sides, saw it through the 90 minutes.

Chelsea’s 1-0 victory meant the North London club secured an unassailable 13-point lead at the top of the league table. Chelsea captain John Terry will lift the 2014-15 Barclays Premier League trophy on May 24, after their home game against Sunderland, according to British media reports.

Chelsea’s title win (with still three games left to play) has been based on a mixture of incredible play by old and new players. For example, captain Terry, who has moved back the years gloriously, and the more current breed such as Hazard and the key summer signings Cesc  Fabregas and Costa.

Chelsea are expected to soon also set a new record for most consecutive days of being on top of the league table.

The idea that Chelsea are boring and have a defensive style of play all seem hollow now as the Blues have romped towards their fifth premier league title.

Chelsea have demonstrated that they have been the Premier League’s most consistent side, driven by a manager with great tactical acumen.

Arguably Chelsea have had the best player and coach this season in the form of Hazard and Mourinho respectively.

Despite the domestic success, Chelsea’s frailties in the Champions League have shown that there is work to be done before Mourinho’s troops can be considered on par with Europe’s big guns Real Madrid, Barcelona and Bayern Munich.
